What do we teach?
Wheaton Park Stables is dedicated to teaching balanced seat equitation. We believe in providing students with strong basic riding skills. All lessons and trail rides are done in the English style of riding.
What should I wear?
All students are required to wear an ASTM certified riding helmet. Helmets are available to rent for $5.00 per series of lessons.
Long pants are required - Do not wear tight pants - wear pants that are loose fitting or stretchy to allow for leg and hip flexibility
Boots or closed shoes with a small heel are preferred. Sandals, clogs or open shoes are not allowed.
How old do you have to be to ride?
Children must be at least
8 years old to ride in our group lessons and camp. Our insurance will not cover anyone younger than 8 years old. However, we DO have pony rides for children under 8.
When is the best time to reach us?
The best times to call on (301) 622-2424 to speak with someone are afternoons and evenings during the week and 9 am to 4 pm on the weekend. PLEASE do not leave a message to reserve a Trail Ride.
You are allowed to schedule one make-up per session for missed classes. The make-up must be scheduled in another group lesson at an appropriate level. The make-up can only be scheduled within the current session. A private lesson or trail ride cannot be used as a substitute.
From the beltway, get off on exit 31A, Georgia Ave north towards Wheaton. Follow that for about 15 minutes and make a right on Randolph Road. Go 2 lights, and make another right on Glenallan Ave. Follow Glenallan Ave for about 3/4 mile, the stables are located on the left side of the road. You will see the red barn and large outdoor ring. The driveway is just past the ring.
Lessons will general be held in inclement weather. Wheaton Park Stables staff will notify you if lessons are cancelled. We use the indoor ring for lessons when the outdoor ring is muddy or it is raining. Class are held on most Federal Holidays except Christmas and New Years. Your instructor will inform you if class is cancelled for any holiday.
As for trail rides, if the weather looks bad call the day of your scheduled trail ride and we will let you know if the rides are being held.
